Big Five Safari Kenya
This safari begins with a layover night at Nairobi the capital city of Kenya, three nights at the Northern frontier of Samburu backtracking, another three nights at Meru National Park and winding down at Ol Pejeta Conservancy and Sweet Waters Chimpanzee Sanctuary.
Samburu National Reserve is 90km north of Mt Kenya and about 360km North of Nairobi. It is situated on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, a Samburu name, meaning the "River of Brown water". This means plenty of water, trees and shade to attract wildlife. Samburu Reserve would be incomplete without a visit to the hippo pools where large numbers of Big –five Elephants wallow in the cooling muds of the River. Ewaso Nyiro River is favorite spot for prides of Lion to rest in the shade. There is also stunning birdlife with are recorded species of over 400. The Samburu complex is also home to Samburu herdsmen who can be seen driving their herds through the dust, dressed in striking red blankets and carrying spears.
Meru National Park is situated in the old Northern Frontier District, straddling the equator and bisected by 13 rivers and numerous mountain-fed streams. This park is wild and one of the most beautiful parks in Kenya. A green paradise compared to the dry savannah of Kenya's parks, this was the wilderness into which George & Joy Adamson released Elsa the lioness, creating the much-loved film 'Born Free'. It has diverse scenery from woodlands to wide-open plains, meandering riverbanks, hilly landscapes and rich grey alluvial volcanic soil deposits. Three large rivers border the reserve: the River Tana to the South, River Ura to the South-west and the Rojeweru to the East.
The Ol Pejeta Conservancy – a 90,000-acre private wildlife conservancy – is situated on the equator, in Kenya's Laikipia District, between the foot hills of the Aberdares and the magnificent snow-capped Mount Kenya. The Ol Pejeta Conservancy boasts an astounding variety of animals, including the Big Five (the endangered black and white rhino , leopard, elephant, buffalo and lion), Grevy’s zebra, Jackson’s hartebeest, cheetah and chimpanzee. The combination of amazing wildlife and stunning views across the open plains of Ol Pejeta guarantees an unforgettable safari experience. As a safe and secure private sanctuary, the Ol Pejeta Conservancy can guarantee a hassle-free safari experience with amazing wildlife viewing on good all-weather roads. The Ol Pejeta Conservancy is only 3.5 hours drive from Nairobi. The Ol Pejeta Conservancy’s main gate is 14 kilometers from the equator turnoff, just before Nanyuki town.
