5 Nights 6 Days IN Chogoria OUT Naromoru Route
This climbing route gives you ample time to trek the trails of Mt Kenya through a scenic route. It also allows your body enough time to acclimatize and hence, a great chance to summit to the Lenana Peak. After the descent to the last bandas on the trail i.e. Met Station your body is treated to a restful night at the bandas with a hot shower from the traditional boiler water. When you return to Nairobi, your body will have rested well and adjusted to your newfound and unlocked potential.
Day 1: Nairobi – Chogoria Gate (2950m asl) – Lake Ellis 3300m asl)
Our representative will pick you up from your residence in Nairobi preferably at the central point for all the participants and transfer you to Chogoria Gate (2950m asl) for gate formalities. The ride is approximately a 5-hour drive through the central highlands of Kenyan farms. We will have Lunch before we begin our 2hrs acclimatization hike up to the beautiful Lake Ellis Camp at an elevation of 3,300m asl
Dinner and overnight at Lake Ellis Camp
Day 2: Lake Ellis (3300m asl) – Lake Michaelson (3850m asl)
Hiking time: 4 - 5hrs | Distance: Approximately 12km | Habitat: Giant heather and lobelia |
After breakfast, start the hike up navigating along the deep chasm of the Gorges and Valley to enjoy the stunning superb geological features of Lake Michaelson (3850m above sea level). Picnic lunch en route, dinner, and overnight at the camp set up by our support team.
Day 3: Lake Michaelson (3850m asl) – Mintos Camp (4200m asl)
Mintos Camp is situated above Lake Michaelson and should take us a steep ascent of approximately 2 hrs and very ideal for acclimatizing before we summit Lenana Peak. We arrive early enough to allow us time to rest / try catching a siesta. All meals including lunch, 4 O'clock snack and dinner at the camp
Day 5: Mackinder's Camp (4000m asl) - Met Station (3040m asl) - Nairobi
After breakfast and feeling like achievers and we surely are, it is easy going down and enjoying the cool mountain weather. Occasionally meandering and navigating through boggy paths, capturing a couple of giant lobelias, mushy moorland, and eventually into the Hargania forest before sighting the final met station base camp.
Day 6: Met Station – Nairobi
After breakfast and feeling like achievers, we surely are, it is easy to go down and enjoy the cool mountain weather. We depart the camp to connect with the transfer vehicle to our onward destination.
